Purebred dogs cost quite a bit more than mixed breeds. This is a fact that is very common; although, not too many potential dog owners understand the reasoning behind this. After all, a dog is a dog. The truth of the matter, though, is that there are a lot of considerations that come into play and show what the big differences are between purebreds and mixed breeds.

So why should anyone pay more for purebred dogs? There are several reasons, actually. For one, having a purebred is a status thing. People know they cost more. People therefore equate purebreds with owners who are of high status and good taste. Only purebreds could be shown on commercials or entered into dog shows and this means that they are definitely a more attractive purchase than that of a mixed breed.

Aside from the status, there are other health considerations involved as well. English bulldog puppies, for instance, will have less of a chance of hip or knee issues if they are not mixed with much taller or much shorter breeds of dogs.

People like the look of certain types of dogs. Mixed breeds often come out looking strange which is not something that any dog owner wants to have. Certain breeds have certain tendencies. It’s much easier, therefore, to predict tendencies of a purebred puppy than those of a mixed breed. One can never tell which tendencies will come from the mother and which from the father. If both the parents of the puppies are of the same breed, though, then the characteristics and tendencies generally associated with that breed will most likely be in the puppies’ personality. When they become older and cannot run as fast, or start to lose races, these dogs are often discarded by the owners because they are not profitable anymore. A dog rescue geared for Greyhounds will take these animals under their care and try to find suitable homes for them.

Other dog rescues will take animals that have been abused and are somewhat disabled. The SPCA often will not be able to find homes for these types of dogs because most people don’t want to bother looking after a pet that may need a bit more care. Why Your Dog Needs ‘Portuguese Water Dog’ Puppy Training

Dog lovers may find it interesting that the Portuguese water dog was already well-known in Portugal for centuries, but not exactly because of its supposedly non-allergen hair. The truth is, the breed has been a multi-talented fisherman’s assistant. Trying to stir up the Portie’s more ancient origins is really a murky affair,  but it is rather close in the bloodline to other European water dog breeds. Some of these dogs are experts and master when it comes to waterfowl retrieval, but the Portie’s genius were meant for other specialties. Some suggested that the Portuguese water dog was taken to Portugal by the Visisigoths, around the 15th century.

To be an effective PWD back then, the dog in question needed to be adept at the following: herding fish into nets; message courier; functioning as a lookout; moving and retrieving nets; as well as rescuing capsized fishermen.

It is also thanks to these early efforts that, year later, a breed standard was made public, the breed was seen more and more thereafter in dog shows, and as a result, there is greater demand for Portuguese water dog puppy training.

Papillon Training

Papillons are comparatively easy breed when it comes to training. They have plumed tails that whorl over their backs and adorable butterfly ears that can either be drooping or erecting. They have multicolored coats that are silky and long while their eyes are round and dark. Generally, the life expectancy of Papillon is fourteen to sixteen years.

If you want to bring a Papillon in your home for a pet, then be sure that you adopt it from a reputable and a trusted breeder who can give you detailed genealogical history for your Papillon puppy. Good breeding is very important for good health. As these dogs are prone to some problems such as fontanel, hind leg problems kneecap and some other diseases, you must take them to the vet and give them important vaccines as soon as possible. Respect Training

If you are not being able to assert yourself as the master to your Papillon, then he will take that position for himself.

Once he feels himself as the leader, then it completely becomes difficult to train your Papillon. So, be the leader in front of him from the first day you bring him home. Don’t use harsh methods to dominate him like grabbing him by scruff and yelling at him. Just get his respect and not his fear. Instilling fear in his mind means making him abnormal dog with abnormal attitudes and behaviors. So, use positive methods for getting his respect.

Socialization

Socialization is the most important part of Papillon training. If they are not socialized, then they are likely to be skittish and awfully timid around strangers.

They may even bite to unknown people because of fear and nervousness. So, to avoid this problem, socialize your Papillon from the early age. Take them with you for short car rides, interact them with many people, pets and other animals. Let them explore different types of surroundings, sights and sounds. Get them used to with natural happenings like rain, thundering, etc. This way, they can be socialized and become a well-tempered and a well-behaved dog.

Names of Rescue Dogs

Dogs which are smart and brave are a big part of search and rescue units. Their heroic acts were recognized in museums, paintings, monuments, statues, memorials, and awards. Here are their heroic stories and names.

The good rescue dog with names and breed are Apollo (German Shepherd), Balto (Husky), Barry (Saint Bernard), Dakota (Pitbull), Dusty (Airedale Terrier), Gandalf (Shiloh Shepherd), Swansea Jack (Newfoundland), Togo (Siberian Husky), and Velvet (Labrador Retriever).

Apollo served on a K-9 search and rescue mission unit. The New York Police Department deploys the K-9 unit for search and rescue mission on September 11 attacks. The twin towers of World Trade Center collapsed after the airplanes crashed to the twin towers. Due to the heroism of Apollo, he earned the Dickin Medal. Apollo is a Greek dog name which means destroyer.

Balto is the lead dog of the final leg which relayed Diphtheria Antitoxin to the city of Nome in 1925.

The city of Nome needed the serum to save the city from an epidemic. In just five and half days (674 miles), the dogs delivered the much needed serum. Balto is an English dog name which means God protects the King.

Barry rescued a total of forty lives from 1800 to 1814. Barry lived in monastery near the Italian and Swish border. The most famous rescue was the boy on an icy ledge. On one snowy day, a boy was stranded on an icy ledge. It was impossible for anybody to get to the icy ledge. Barry braves the danger to rescue the boy. Barry slowly crawled to the icy ledge. With the warm licks of Barry, the boy awakened. Then, Barry pulled the boy to safety. Barry is spear or marksman in Irish origin, and gate or fence in French origin.

Dakota worked on over one hundred search and rescue mission.

He is such an outstanding at search and rescue. He was sent for search and rescue mission on Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. The shuttle exploded in mid air above Texas. All the seven crew of shuttle lost their lives. Dakota is a Native American dog name which means friend or ally.

Dusty led the rescuers to a woman who fell off a cliff in a car. Unfortunately, she drove herself off the cliff of Oregon on October 22, 2007. Dusty is a variation of English name called Dustin. It means brave warrior.

Gandalf led rescuers to a boy scout named Michael Auberry. He got lost in March of 2007. Gandalf is another English dog name which means wand elf.

Swansea Jack literally lived in Swansea, Wales. To be exact, Jack lived on a dock near River Tawe. As a Newfoundland breed, Jack is naturally strong and huge. And, the breed likes to rescue someone who gets difficulty in water. So, Jack was known to rescue someone out of water. With numerous rescues, Jack earned numerous awards. Jack is a Hebrew dog name which means God is gracious.

Togo worked with Balto to deliver Diphtheria Antitoxin to the city of Nome in 1925. However, Togo is the lead dog on the longest track. Togo is derived from an African country name.

Velvet ascended with eight mountain climbers at Mount Hood. Sadly, a big storm toppled off three climbers and Velvet. They had fallen 8,300 feet off the ledge. In the meantime, the other five climbers were able to call for help. However, the rescue team were forced to call off the mission as the storm worsens. Meanwhile, Velvet warms up the climbers from one climber to another climber thru out the night. Finally, the search and rescue team were able to get them as the storm eases. Velvet is a dog name that pertains to the shine and texture of short hair fur.

Using the natural animal instincts, the dogs rescue and save human lives. To humans, the search and rescue is all work and business. To dogs, the search and rescue is all play. They brave the danger to save countless lives.
